Job Purpose

Skanska UK PLC are looking for a Project Director to lead the Energy For Waste project within our Civil Engineering Division. The role will be based out of our head office in Maple Cross, Hertfordshire.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of Interpersonal skills, be able to pull together and motivate a Multi Disciplined Bid team. The Candidate will have had previous senior level experience (as Project Director or similar) in the Construction of Waste Plant facilities. The successful candidate will be expected to present the face of Skanska to the client and to show a high level of understanding of the risks and opportunities associated with these facilities. They should be able to pull together a coherent and "winning strategy" that can maximise the benefits of our submissions and differentiate ourselves from the competition. The candidate should also have had previous experience of PFI schemes, how special purpose vehicles function, their relationships with both the ultimate client and the delivery vehicle. It will be essential that the successful candidate understands and can articulate the commercial issues surrounding these PFI schemes and how they can be overcome and accommodated.

DRIVE the Successful delivery of Projects in accordance with the Company's Procedures, Management Systems and Performance Targets. Create and Build suitably experienced Project teams for the benefit of the Company and the Project.

SUPPORT the Directors and the Board to build the Business in accordance with the "Strategy Plan".

LEAD the development of Client and Supply Chain Relationships.

Principle Duties & Accountabilities

Establish the Project Execution Plan and set up the project organisation for its implementation.

Create and develop successful project teams.

Manage, supervise, train and mentor the project team to enable them to optimise their work contribution.

Set targets to measure performance, and drive continuous improvement.

Deliver performance in accordance with targets and procedures.

Manage the process in a manner which enhances the reputation of the company and increases prospects for future work.

Develop potential future work opportunities through relationships with clients, suppliers and members of the construction community.

Keep abreast of developments in professional field · Implement a improvement process on the project to identify best practice, implement improvements, gather and feedback knowledge and inform the team how knowledge may be accessed.

Adherence to Skanska policies and procedures, including formal appointments as required.

Key Working Relationships

• Internal:

- Board of Directors and JV Boards (Project Governance issues)

- Project / Construction Manager (all project matters)

- Works Manager (works sequence, resourcing and workforce issues)

- Commercial manager (all commercial and contractual issues)

- Public Relations Manager (report on all aspects of stakeholder relationships)

- Knowledge Manager (all matters regarding knowledge capture and retrieval)

- Engineering Manager (all engineering aspects)

• External:

- Design (resolution of contractual and commercial issues, design status and philosophy)

- Client / Representative (general project status and specific issues, report on progress and confirming requirements, scope, instruction and finical issues)

- Subcontractors (initial contract agreement and resolution of issues)

- Local Authorities (consents, access issues, service connections)

- Other contractors (synchronising activities, setting shared goals)

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications Required

· Essential:

- Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering.

- Understanding of Engineering Principles Knowledge and Understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training.

- Extensive Technical knowledge and experience of construction techniques and best practices.

- Understanding of procurement, financing and accounting processes and procedures.

- Articulate with good verbal, written and graphic communication skills.

- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system, Primavera software).

- Relevant CSCS Card.

- Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management.

· Desirable

Degree in Civil Engineering MICE.
