
My Bedfordshire based client currently have an opportunity to join their team as a fire health & safety advisor.
Main purpose of the role: Work closely with line management and staff across the Group to provide an advice, guidance, and information service for all employees in fire, health, safety and welfare matters so they perform their duties in a safe manner and in accordance with legal requirements. To advise and support managers and staff on all health & safety matters relating to working activities and in accordance with Statutory Provisions, Codes of Practice, internal systems and guidance material. Undertake Fire Risk Assessments and reviews across the property portfolio. In conjunction with the Health and Safety Manager, maintain a comprehensive accessible database of fire risk assessments. Monitor completion of actions arising from assessments and organise assessments in appropriate cases. Carry out inspections of communal and shared spaces across the property portfolio to ensure they are free from fire risks and obstructions. Promote Health and Safety at work; partake in the preparation and delivery of training courses designed to raise awareness of Health and Safety responsibilities and methods of safe working practices amongst managers and staff. Assist in the inspection and auditing of sites, including construction sites, to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and codes of practice. Ensuring that Scheme Managers complete all applicable risk assessments and routine inspections and to assist where necessary. Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive, the Fire Authorities, Local Authorities on all matters relating to health and safety as may apply to the Group's activities.
Help communicate the Group's health and safety policy and through measuring and auditing operational performance, ensure compliance throughout the organisation. Ensure the health and safety service has a strong internal and external customer focus, ensuring close liaison with all departments to ensure adequate co-ordination of the service and excellent customer satisfaction. Keep abreast of changes in fire safety and health and safety legislation, best practice and regulations and appropriately advise and assist managers in the implementation of actions arising from these changes. Monitor fire arrangements, evacuation drills, set standards for fire prevention and mitigation. Write fire procedures for employees, visitors and others in regards to DDA.
To develop appropriate fire plans to ensure that you successfully meets all legal and other statutory requirements in relation to fire safety. Produce reports and statistics on a regular and ad-hoc basis as required by the Health and Safety Manager and the Health and Safety Committee. Collate and monitor incident and accident forms and make appropriate notifications under RIDDOR. Investigate serious occurrences and take appropriate preventative actions as necessary.
Experience:Relevant practical experience of:Providing advice and guidance on health and safety law. Conducting risk assessments and deciding on relevant risk control measures. Delivering health and safety training and auditing health and safety arrangements. Working in the area of fire safety in a housing setting. Hold membership of a fire safety professional body and possess detailed knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Hold membership of IOSH at Technician level or higher.
