As Head of Design for the Science Museum, you will work closely with the Director of Masterplan and Estate to deliver an ambitious, ten-year Masterplan. You will develop and ensure an integrated design approach for the Museum, promoting a consistent look and feel and enabling ease of navigation for visitors.
As a champion of the highest quality design, you will commission and source the best and most appropriate design work for all projects, exhibitions, spaces and activities. The design strategy includes galleries and non-gallery spaces; written materials; way-finding and signage. You will provide expert leadership, technical advice and input into design briefs. You will also commission work from external designers when required.
Experience of leading projects encompassing both 2D and 3D design is essential, with a sophisticated visual sense and a true commitment to outstanding design. You must have the capability to lead, manage and collaborate with a wide range of designers and museum teams – inspiring others, setting direction and creating a shared sense of purpose. A relevant degree or design qualification is essential, a demonstrable understanding of design within a museum environment, and an excellent track record of delivering large-scale, complex initiatives.
As the Museum implements a number of flagship projects, there is huge scope here to influence and lead design issues, playing a key role in the broader transformation of a National Museum.
