The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; reduce the risk of flooding; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate.
We’re looking for civil engineering graduates to join our national Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Engineering Graduate Programme. Lasting three to four years, the programme focuses on four important areas: technical, commercial, professional and management.
You'll take on a mix of internal and external assignments across your region to build skills in everything from asset management to project feasibility, planning to design, and project management to site supervision. You'll usually spend between three months and a year on each assignment, so you'll have time to get to grips with the issues, gain the required experience, and make each project your own.
We will provide training for you under agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Once you can demonstrate that you possess the full range of skills, attitudes and capabilities, you can move forward for your chartered professional review. If you pass that, you'll then be a Flood and Coastal Risk Engineer with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and can apply for a wide range of senior roles within our organisation.
At every stage, you’ll be supported by your team leader, a supervising civil engineer who'll oversee your work and a delegated engineer who'll help you on a day-to-day basis. They'll be around to answer any questions, pass on their knowledge and experience, and help you become the best Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Engineer you can possibly be.
To join us you must be a graduate with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering that is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators as satisfying the requirements of becoming a Chartered Engineer.
In return, we offer a competitive package with a range of benefits and the opportunity to make a real difference to the environment. We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve and welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working patterns, including job share.
