The Highway and Transport Delivery Service is responsible for the policies, planning, design, construction and maintenance of the Boroughs transportation related infrastructure, supporting major regeneration and development projects in the borough, and coordinating activities on the Highway to improve safety and minimise traffic congestion.

Policy and Design are responsible for developing transportation strategies and policies and for developing sustainable travel initiates to support walking, cycling, public transport and car clubs and the design and consultation of safety and parking schemes.

Highways and Civil Engineering work closely with developers on planning consents to maximise the potential of investment, supporting major regeneration projects and are responsible for a variety of highway management functions including highway structures such as bridges and culverts, drainage, highway adoptions, development control, school crossing patrols, school travel planning and road safety education, network management, the monitoring of utility company work, and highway maintenance and improvement projects.

The Principal Engineer – Design will be responsible for co-ordinating and programming various transport related infrastructure improvements in the borough, typically safety improvements and parking schemes. You will also be responsible for design approval and preparing work programmes and submissions for accident reduction measures and other initiatives under our neighbourhood and corridors budgets.

An enthusiastic and talented individual, you will be qualified to degree/HNC level or equivalent, have a good working knowledge of highway safety legislation with experience, and a proven track record in successful contract and budget management. You will have an ability to provide technical advice on traffic design matters and innovative value for money solutions.

Committed to the highest standards of customer care with excellent communication and management skills, you will liaise with stakeholders about scheme design.

This post has been vacant for several months and we are therefore keen to have someone in post as soon as possible.
