As the repair and rebuild of Christchurch's infrastructure prepares to get under way major contractors are looking to recruit specialists who will play an integral part in the process. So far much of the completed work has been focussed on temporarily repairing the city's infrastructure to maintain services for the population. The plan was always to replace much of the infrastructure and as the new season starts in September/October so this work will get underway.
One of the major contractors inNew Zealandis playing a big part in the rebuild ofChristchurchand is gearing up for a significant influx of work at the end of 2012 and the start of 2013. Much of the work will initially focus on the rebuilding of the new deep drainage system in Christchurch including 100's of kilometres of clean and waste water piping and the construction of over 400 small pump stations. In time the focus will change to include wider aspects of civil construction including roads, earthworks, structures and foundation work and so the opportunities for developing experience and career are enormous.
One of the most significant requirements will be for good site and project engineers with a range of experience. Length of experience can range from 3 years upwards as there will be a clear need for younger engineers and those with a few more years under their belts. As a company they see Christchurch as a long term commitment, not just for the rebuild, so there will be significant opportunities to develop your career in a number of directions if you choose.
