CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER – YTL DEVELOPMENTS UK
Leading the strategic development and delivery of the South West's premier development project
Based in Bristol
Significant six figure package with substantial bonus and benefits
YTL Developments UK is part of the Malaysian owned, international YTL Group. The group has net assets in excess of £30bn and operates primarily in Asia, the UK and Australia. In Asia, YTL is a major real estate developer with its own development and construction capability.
YTL Developments UK was started some two years ago with the intention that it will become a major player in the UK residential and commercial development market. The business is based in Bristol where its first project is the redevelopment of the 355 acre Filton airfield in north Bristol, for residential and commercial use. The development has outline planning for 2675 homes and 62 acres of commercial space, with three schools, community facilities, a town centre and new railway station. The master planning of the site has been undertaken by Allies & Morrison, with additional work on the public realm by Gehl Associates. Connectivity is a key part of the development, with a direct rail link to central Bristol, interchange for the dedicated Metrobus route, plus linkages to the motorway network.
The YTL philosophy is to build exceptional homes with excellent public realm and a focus on sustainability and smart technology. This will be the flagship development to establish YTL in the UK market. Alongside the airfield redevelopment, YTL will be repurposing the giant 27 acre Brabazon hangars into a new entertainment and leisure complex. The combined development will create an exciting new residential, commercial and entertainment area for north Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
The role – the successful candidate will report to the CEO who has been seconded from Malaysia to establish the business. The COO will lead on all aspects of planning, development, construction and delivery for all parts of the project. He or she will ensure the business has the right high quality resource in place, costs are effectively controlled and the programme proceeds to time and on budget. The successful candidate will play a central role in the strategic thinking and positioning of the YTL Developments UK business.
The requirement is for a proven track record of delivery at a very senior level. The capability and fit are more important than qualification, but the successful candidate is likely to have a good, relevant degree and/or professional qualification (RIBA, RTPI, RICS and ICE). You are currently in a Director level role, with a blue-chip player and have delivered exemplar projects on difficult city sites with heritage footprints. If you are looking for challenge and the opportunity to play a leading part in one of the most exciting projects in the UK, to be based in the most exciting city outside of London, to work with an international team and to be in at the start of developing a major UK development, then this is the job for you.
