The Strategic Estates team is proud to look after and improve the buildings within the Parliamentary Estate. The team plays a key role protecting and preserving the Palace’s legacy while ensuring it can continue to house the UK Parliament into the 21st century and beyond. It provides services to both the House of Commons and House of Lords, carrying out work on World Heritage sites which attract visitors from all over the globe.

The Northern Estate Programme (NEP) is managing the refurbishment and redevelopment of several buildings on Parliament’s Northern Estate, aiming to deliver an estate with increased environmental performance, and improved security, safety and accessibility. Ahead of the restoration and renewal of the Palace of Westminster, NEP will develop additional space and facilities required for the House of Commons to temporarily move out of the Palace, including an operational chamber, committee rooms, and House support services.

An outstanding opportunity has arisen to join the Strategic Estates team as Commercial Director of the NEP. This is a challenging yet rewarding role demanding sophistication, acumen and ‘nous’ and the Commercial Director will successfully determine the strategy and direction of all contractual, commercial and financial aspects of many of NEP’s challenging projects. The postholder will also build strong relationships with stakeholders both internal and external; lead, motivate and influence in a complex matrix structure; and develop commercial policy, processes and framework, as well as functional standards and tools.

The ideal candidate combines a strategic overview with first class operational contract management experience. You will prove that you are an outstanding and inclusive leader, confident and credible working with Boards, Committees and a wide range of senior stakeholders, internal and external. Excellent communication skills and powerful credentials in motivating teams, embedding commercial excellence, and influencing others to deliver sustainable improvement and value for money are essential to success in this role. You will bring considerable and proven experience across the full range of commercial, acquisition and procurement activities, and an impressive track record of financial and contractual performance management of multiple largescale NEC3 contracts and projects. Equally important will be your ability to influence, advise, persuade and inspire at all levels.
