Architectural Designer - Slough - Salary dependant on experience
The job encompasses managing projects for the design of new buildings, the spaces in and around them as well as the restoration and conservation of old buildings and developing new ways of using existing buildings. Involvement in construction projects will be from the earliest stages right through to completion.
The role works under the direction of a partner or other senior members of the practice but a reasonable level of independent working is expected
Duties and responsibilities
developing initial design ideas with the client to ascertain exact requirements, budget, building usage and impact on the local community and environment.
assessing sites and preparing feasibility proposals.
preparing detailed design proposals using computer-aided design (AutoCAD to show usage of space, what the building will look like in its environment and how it will be built.
presenting the design proposals to clients.
preparing planning applications and presentations.
once the designs have been approved, produce or co-ordinate the production of detailed drawings for the tender and construction of the works. Project management
specifying the nature and quality of materials required.
negotiating with contractors and other professionals.
co-ordinating the work of other colleagues, consultants and contractors.
making site visits to check on progress and inspect work, which may include some over-night stays.
making sure that the project is running within the agreed time frame and budgets.
managing and resolving problems that might come up during the project.
advising clients on the practicality of their project.
meeting and liaising with clients and establishing good working relationships with necessary contacts.
