This multi-award-winning contractor based in Bristol have been established nearly over 50 years and are well respected in their chosen markets with a string of long term repeat clients. They are risk adverse and don't chase turnover that may not be profitable. They currently have a fair turnover with plans to increase by 20-30% over the next few years meaning this role has the scope to become a Commercial Manager role in the short to medium term. They have forged an excellent reputation for delivering quality projects across the south of the UK specialising in internal refurbishments and small scale new build projects across commercial, residential and retail sectors. They have a strong team who are mostly long serving with the company and a real ethos of team working and treating people in the right way.
Your new role
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor you will manage the commercial delivery of a portfolio of construction projects with values usually between £100k-2m. Your total projects will be between 2-5 dependant on value with an overall value of c£4-6m. You will be office based in Bristol with occasional visits to sites. You will report to the Commercial Director and play a pivotal role within the business being part of the senior management team. You will manage the small commercial team currently made up of a couple of estimating staff and a handful of Project Surveyors.
What you'll need to succeed
For the best chance of success with this role you will have at least ten years' experience in a similar role within the construction industry or maybe a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take on a larger role to progress your career. You will have a genuine passion for construction and a track record of projects successfully delivered. You will likely hold a degree in commercial management or a HNC/ONC in construction with Quantity Surveying experience following this. You will be confident in dealing with subcontractors, clients and the public. Finally, you will need good man management skills, be well organised and manage your time well. All alongside a sound overall knowledge of the construction process.
