Within this role you will be responsible for the financial performance of a Portfolio of Projects including Clean and Waste Water treatment schemes throughout the Southern Water region. 

CMDP is a joint venture and will deliver a range of schemes to maintain and improve Southern Water’s water supply and wastewater treatment works in the eastern half of its region (Kent & East Sussex). The individual projects are the design and construction of improvements to clean water and dirty water treatment plants, including pumping stations and sea outfalls. Individual projects within the programme will range in value from £250K up to£20M. 

You will report directly to the Commercial Manager and duties/responsibilities of the role will include. 

• Work alongside the CMDP Contract Delivery Leads accountable for the profit / loss for this tranche of projects 
• Supporting the TEAM driving initiatives through the projects to yield the efficiency targets imposed by SWS and yield gain share for CMDP 
• Monitoring efficiencies yielded by innovation 
• Providing constructive feedback to the estimating team 
• Liaise with Employers commercial team & client team 
• Oversee / Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts, and Contract Budget reports including full cost control 
• Review value management / value engineering exercises 
• Accurate cost profiling to advise client on anticipated spend 
• Assist Framework Commercial Manager in developing and implementing commercial strategies across the Framework 
• Ensure that the commercial team complies with the Framework Supply Chain strategy for AMP6 
• Produce and monitor Commercial / Contractual correspondence and issues to reflect CMDP best practice 
• Oversee whole end to end process of Subcontract administration from enquiries & initial placement of order to final account and Completion including negotiation of price, contract terms and final account 
• Assist in management / training of the overall commercial team 
• Ensure the projects you are responsible for are on time / budget 
• Monitor cash to ensure payments made on time to CMDP 
• Provide commercial & contractual advice and support to rest of team 
• Liaise with design, construction and supply chain teams to capture, analyse and control cost 
• Manage early warnings and change control / compensation events for portfolio of Project 
• Ensure appropriate commercial records are maintained 
• Assist in the preparation and agreement of applications for payment 
• Be proactive in self-development and professional qualification 
• Assist in the development of Senior Quantity surveyors, QS and graduate QSs 
• Carry out sub-contractor performance reviews on allocated sub-contractors


• Working towards or have chartered membership of a recognised institution 
• Degree or equivalent 
• NEC3 or other target cost contract experience 
• Several years experience within a similar civil engineering environment 
• Experience of managing and developing an individual or small team
