Principal Civil Engineer
About the role
You and your small team of engineers and technicians will play a crucial role in maintaining, conserving, renewing and protecting engineering infrastructure and assets across our Northwest, Northeast and East Midlands waterways. You’ll be responsible for all elements of the team’s success, from recruitment to performance management to development planning. Together, you will deliver a wide range of critical engineering work, including inspections, investigations of defects and works packages for priority works delivery, alongside briefs for larger schemes.
We are looking for a Chartered Engineer (or someone with an equivalent professional qualification) who has a degree in a relevant engineering discipline and is a member of a relevant professional body at an appropriate level (e.g. MICE). You will also need substantial experience of delivering complex engineering or concepts.
One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations. Our mission is to have by 2020 a thriving, sustainable waterway network cherished by a public that shares a deep sense of responsibility for its wellbeing. Achieving this will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it.
In addition to your annual salary and car cash allowance you will receive 25 days holiday + public holidays, optional holiday purchase scheme, employee discounts and several salary sacrifice options.
We aim to represent the diverse communities we are part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do.
