Position Summary

The Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor is responsible for ensuring that all operations and activities comply with Multiplex Construction Canada's Health Safety & Environmental policies, standards and management systems

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and monitor Health Safety & Environmental management system accredited to CSA Z1000, COR™ and BS OHSAS 18001
  • Work with internal client groups and senior management to implement Health Safety & Environmental projects and deal with related issues
  • Conduct, organize and document incident and project specific investigations, inspections, Site and Contractor audits, and Health Safety & Environmental training and orientation
  • Liaise with government agencies (federal, provincial and WCBs) to ensure regulatory compliance with safety programs, and implement any corrective actions
  • Prepare and submit Health, Safety and Environmental reports
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective measures
  • Monitor and enforce Personnel Protective Equipment ("PPE") compliance and escalate issues as required
  • Assist with the development of safe work practices and job hazard analyses for BMCC and monitor sub-trades Safety performance (through job hazard analysis)
  • Advise appropriate party of any significant Health, Safety, or Environmental incidents

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Health Safety & Environmental Management, Safety Engineering, or a related field
  • CRSP Designation is highly preferred or must be working towards it
  • 1-3 years of experience in a Health & Safety position, ideally in the construction industry

Required Skills
  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Occupational Health & Safety legislation, Workers Compensation and understanding of industry standards
  • Working knowledge or experience in COR™, ISO 14001, BS OHSAS 18001 & CSA Z1000
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to resolve conflicts
  • Problem solving and demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
