Position Description:

Coordinates and participates in the preparation of all estimates that are provided by the Estimating Department. Manages and is responsible for all estimating functions that may be required during preconstruction including value engineering, alternative and comparative studies. Takes the lead from an estimating/preconstruction basis on projects assigned.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Work with project team during preconstruction to develop and update preconstruction and construction estimates
  • Review project plans, requirements and specifications
  • Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing
  • Coordinate subcontract solicitations and job walks as appropriate
  • Determine labor and construction equipment costs
  • Meet and maintain proposal and bid schedules
  • Compare competitive trade bids
  • Review preliminary quotes and pre-bid estimates
  • Secure all bid documents (bid forms and quote letters)
  • Prepare subcontractor bid list and submit drawings to subcontractors
  • Participate in bid compilation on bid day
  • Assist jobsite staff with estimates after bid award

Skills & Experience Requirements:

  • Engineering, Construction Management of Architectural degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10 years professional experience, at least 5 in Estimating
  • Computer literate and comfortable with complex spreadsheets, database programs, and on-screen takeoff programs
  • Strong conceptual estimating skills
  • Ability to lead a lump sum bid pursuit
  • Knowledge of local subcontractor community and all trades
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Profound knowledge of construction operations
  • Comfortable meeting with Clients and Owners
  • Time management skills, multi-tasking
  • Ability to work in team environment as well as supervise others
