Role Overview:
Highways is one of six business units that make up the Galliford Try Infrastructure Division. It delivers projects for national and local clients.
The team has expanded in recent times and with strong project performance along with successful work winning, we are continuing to build and develop the business unit operating in three key areas: Highways England, Local Authorities and Highway Maintenance.

This role will be working within our team dedicated to projects on behalf of Local Authorities, comprising of various road build, improvement and construction projects ranging from £1-£25M in value. As Works Manager you will be responsible for delivery of all day-to-day physical elements of projects, whether it being a single large scheme or a number of smaller schemes
We are continuing to deliver and secure projects with local authorities providing a continuous portfolio of projects in our Midlands Region. The view with this position will be to initially work on a scheme we have been awarded the enabling works for and anticipating full project award; the scheme is a new road and bridge construction project in the Burton-On-Trent region valued £10M due to start May 2018.

Key Accountabilities:
Health Safety and Environmental
· Establish, maintain and enforce compliance with the current safety legislation and the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental Policies
· Undertake role of the Site Safety Supervisor.
· Appraise the risk to all company property under your control and install security levels commensurate to the relative values.
· Encourage and lead the Challenging Beliefs Affecting Behaviour initiative
· Ensure the site fulfils all obligations for external compliance audits
· Ensure Permit to Work systems, Inductions and Briefings are correctly carried out
· Ensure basic company requirements for supervision, competency, first aid cover etc are fulfilled at all times
· Maintain the culture whereby everyone is continually seeking to satisfy customer requirements.
· Ensure systems are in place and used in order that quality of work is to the prescribed contractual and national standards.
· Monitor the capability of staff and contractors to undertake current and prospective workloads and report to site management.
· Identify \ Assist to introduce new processes, techniques and innovations on site
· Monitor and record individual / contractor performances, encouraging and disciplinary, as and when necessary.
· Ensure the site fulfils all obligations for external compliance audits
Site Management
· Plan and co-ordinate the operational delivery of the project as allocated.
· Ensure the correct administering of the Contractual Processes
· Oversee the day to day construction processes and ensure co-ordination within the site team, client and contractors
· Attend meetings with and maintain necessary regular contact with clients and stakeholders.
· Co-ordinate and control initial set up including installing Company systems and procedures.
· Rigorously apply and enforce methods and controls to ensure the most effective and continuous use of Company resources.
· Assist with the control and monitoring of the progress of the works.
· Liaise and co-ordinate with Head Office / Internal Company Departments.
· Administer the cost reporting systems (delivery notes, Plant hire and collections, waste) to maximise cash flow and profitability.
· Implement strict financial controls on subcontractors, suppliers and operatives.
· Post contract, organise and co-ordinate the undertaking of maintenance work.
· Ensure full participation in staff development review, training and mentoring
· Ensure the timely reporting of information in line with internal company and external client requirements
· General levels of conduct and minimum performance standards are described in the Conditions of Service booklets. It is incumbent upon all members of staff to maintain standards of discipline that accord with the Conditions of Service.
Marketing / Procurement
· Establish and maintain links with clients and their advisers.
· Build long term relationships with Joint Venture Partners, contractors and other key stakeholders
· In conjunction with the site management team, manage the project procurement process for suppliers and contractors in line with the divisional processes and commercial best practise.
· Monitor and report stock levels of consumables and general building materials and participate in the timely ordering and delivery of items so as to ensure no delays or reduced output within the works.

Experience and Qualifications:
You will have experience, qualifications and skills in the following:
· Strong track record working for a main contractor in Civil Engineering
· Experience in the construction of highways. Prior bridge build and knowledge in bridge construction/buildability is essential for this position, either highways or rail briges.
· CSCS Managers Category
· IT skills
· Knowledge of temporary works techniques and the ability to ensure they are installed and maintained correctly.
· Extensive experience in the construction of similar projects with significant experience at supervisory level must be demonstrated
· 4 day First Aid training preferred
