Role Overview:
Highways is the largest of five business units that make up the Galliford Try Infrastructure Division. It delivers projects for national and local clients.
The team has expanded in recent times and with strong project performance along with successful work winning, we are continuing to build and re-structure the business including operations for Highways England, Local Authorities and Highway Maintenance.

The project that this role is required for is to work on Highways England's flagship Smart Motorways Programme and is being delivered via a joint venture between Galliford Try and Costain. We are improving the 37.9km (23.6 miles) section of the M1 between junctions 13 and 16, which passes through Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire and provides connections to the towns of Bedford, Milton Keynes and Northampton. The project will involve upgrading this section to an All-Lane Running (ALR) smart motorway.

The SHE Advisor will support the team in managing all Health, Safety and environmental aspects of the construction activities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Client/CGT processes and procedures.

This project continues a successful track record delivering to Highways England adding to our impressive portfolio of Smart Motorway and Major Highway works.

Key Accountabilities
    Advise sites on Project-specific health, safety and environment issues. Actively identify areas for improvement and contribute to plans aimed at reducing the occurrence of incidents. Ensure that site teams are proactive, up to date and comply with current health, safety and environmental legislation, best practice and Company standards. Undertake monitoring of the health, safety and the environment processes. Assist with the investigation of incidents to establish the root cause and preventative measures. Develop and maintain a 'continuous improvement' ethos in the approach to health, safety and environmental issues and support the Groups Behavioural Safety Program. Ensure site based management are focused on delivering a safe and healthy working environment. Support the Business Unit and Operation Management teams in all aspects of health, safety and the environment performance and management. Assist the Systems Manager with knowledge base management and research.

Experience and Qualifications:
· Relevant Health & Safety Qualifications i.e. NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate as a minimum
· Relevant experience in the construction industry with knowledge of Highway specific H&S aspects desirable
· Main contracting background with experience in a site based role
· Ability to work in a team
· Ability to manage own workload to meet the project requirements
· Hold a full driving license
