Band 4 Mechanics Production Instructor, HMP Cardiff, Full time, Mon-Fri, Long term temporary

Your new role
As a production instructor, you will be responsible for instructing and training prisoners by building effective, appropriate and supportive relationships through managing them in a proactive manner and promoting the decency agenda. You will be trained in safer custody practices and be required to comply with national and local security standards. You will be responsible for high level of security, productivity, good order and hygiene within workshops areas.
This workshop deals specifically with Motor mechanics, including cars, machinery, engines and other equipment such as lawn mowers. The instructor will delivering an ABC mechanics award, overseeing between 14-16 prisoners per day by themselves.
Main duties include:
- Participate in the selection process of prisoners for the workshop/area of work undertaking prisoner learning -need assessments
- Induct prisoners to the workshop/area of work and train them in aspects such as Health and Safety, Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH), machinery and tools usage
- Provide support for prisoners where required; tailor learning and training requirements to individual needs
- Maintain and update learner records including their Individual Learning Plan accordingly
-Assess and evaluate skills of prisoners including National Vocational Qualification levels 1 and 2 and other relevant industry recognised qualifications
What you'll need to succeed
You will need to hold a relevant Mechanics qualification to be able to demonstrate at least 2 years relevant experience in motor mechanics. Have manual handling experience, and posses a basic knowledge of how a car works, including 4 stroke, diesel engines and braking systems. The ideal candidate will also be competent in technical drawing.
The successful candidate will be subject to full prison clearance and 2 satisfactory work references.
