CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER
St Helena Island, South Atlantic
2 years FTC available immediately
Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.
Projects vary between refurbishment works and new builds including our new Port facility and the rehabilitation of one of the islands strategic roads. Acting as Project Lead through the project cycle, you will deliver against output, outcome and spend targets through the effective profiling, risk management and monitoring of key milestones and other KPIs. To do this, you will implement standard project management practises, using PRINCE2 or similar.
You will be responsible for a project team and where applicable act as Contracts Manager. You may oversee a whole site or a big part of a large-scale, complex project. Managing the practical side of every stage of build you will ensure that information is presented to Project Boards for approval. You will plan the entire project and document all the jobs that must be completed, ensuring that all trades people and contractors are working together to an agreed plan. You will also monitor construction productivity and schedule performance, ensuring critical areas are controlled, and be required to maintain the Issue register, Risk register, Daily log and Lessons log.
Holding professional qualifications in an appropriate technical discipline such as civil engineering, construction or science, you will also have a professional qualification in Project Management such as PRINCE 2 Practitioner level. Substantial time spent as a Construction or Project Manager should be supported by management experience and a background of working with Governments of developing countries, particularly small states or islands. Experience of applying RIBA plan of Works is essential.
In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Economic Development Investment Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
