The ISIS neutron and muon source at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire is a world-leading research center which uses beams of neutrons and muons to study the atomic-level properties of materials. The ISIS Target Operations Group runs two target stations to provide neutrons for users, as well as a third target which produces muons.
The Lifting Operations Team supply services to the ISIS halls and to the whole site. This role covers the internal crane tasks, external bespoke work, and support to all ISIS buildings. To support this incredible facility, we are looking to recruit a Lifting Technician with experience and knowledge of operations and equipment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising Heavy gang work.
- Give advice to all members of RAL staff on problems associated with lifting and handling.
- Carry out Risk Assessments and Lift Plans where necessary – keep ISIS LOLER Manager and Group Leader updated on any problems. Band D to deputise as ISIS LOLER manager
- Identify and order any lifting equipment required.
- Identify type/requirements and suitability of new lifting equipment.
- Support the ISIS experimental program during running and maintenance periods.
- Continue with the rotation and training of the Band B Heavy Gang Riggers and apprentices including monitoring performance and giving expert guidance and supervision of agency staff when necessary.
- Maintain the excellent safety record of the Lifting Team.
