Structural Engineer

One of my key clients in Newark have asked me to help them with a slightly different role than usual. They are requiring a Structural Engineer to join their 30 strong team.

They currently have 6 people working form their office, with the majority of are working from home. You will be joining their Engineering department made up of 6 people, including 2 partners who are structural engineers themselves and will be conducting the interviews (initial Microsoft Teams chat to start with).

My client's aim is to get everybody back in the office at some point, however in the meantime they have got a WFH policy in place.

My client is requiring professionals that are either a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineers with a degree in civil or structural engineering, and have good experience of the UK construction industry.

You will be working on the design of a wide variety of interesting building structures projects across the UK. You will need to possess several years of post qualification experience in the UK construction industry. Project familiarity is crucial for them as they work across a variety of sectors, which typically include residential, commercial, industrial, education, energy, leisure, retail and heritage projects for both private and public sector clients.

Prospective candidates should be proficient in the structural design of buildings using all common construction materials and have experience of designing in accordance with British Standards and Eurocodes.

The successful candidate will be working on a wide variety of interesting projects across the UK, including the design of building structures, earth retaining structures, flood defences, etc. as well as carrying out structural inspections and writing reports. They will be proficient in the use of modern 3D analysis and design software and preferably be AutoCAD literate (experience with Revit would also be beneficial but is not essential).

They will need to have good IT and communication skills, be able to liaise closely with clients, contractors and other professionals, and be a team player, ideally with some experience of managing small groups of engineers and technicians. Commercial awareness and business development skills would help the right candidate take advantage of this position, genuine promotion prospects and the opportunity to progress their career as far as their ambition allows.
