How Forrest fell apart
On 7 December 2018, Forrest collapsed into administration, leaving a trail of unfinished projects and unpaid suppliers in its wake. Insiders have revealed to CN how the company’s decision to enter into the high-rise market proved a fatal turning point for the contractor. Lucy Alderson delves deeper.
It was 1955 when a joiner named Herbert T Forrest founded a social housing contractor of the same name in Preston.
The day-to-day running of the company was kept firmly under the Forrest family’s control for the next 54 years. It only had one change of hands – in 1993 – when Timothy Forrest took over as CEO.
