While unemployment in the UK has just hit a 17 year high (now at 8.1%, its highest since 1994), and the worsening economic conditions are slowing down the UK's construction industry, it's a different story elsewhere. UK professionals within the construction and engineering sector will find that their skills are much needed in these countries, as the local labour markets fail to keep pace with the unprecedented expansion. Huge investment equals huge opportunity. More than half the world's planned additions to LNG capacity are under construction in Australia alone, and Australia's total mining is tipped to more than double in the next 10 years, from 693,000 to an estimated 1.45 million. New Zealand, too, is feeling the effects of skill shortages as the rebuild effort for Christchurch drives a new wave of job opportunities.
