The Role

We are currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Intelligent Transport Systems Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis in our Bristol office. The successful candidate will be developing and implement policies, innovative ITS safety improvement projects, standards, operating procedures and best practices, and provide specialist technical advice and guidance; to support the development, renewal and maintenance of Highways England assets.

Day to Day

  • Act as a source of specialist subject matter expertise; to provide appropriate advice and guidance to Highways England, its contractors and suppliers and to support colleagues in resolving technical issues and in their personal development.
  • Engage with stakeholders across Highways England and externally to understand their business needs, to promote and gain commitment to SES objectives and solutions, to identify key areas for improvement and to share best practices.
  • Represent Highways England on technical and standards committees, steering groups and at conferences, seminars and workshops, to contribute to the development of external standards, to ensure that Highways England views are appropriately represented and to enhance our reputation.
  • Develop business or value management cases for new projects, to ensure that such projects are consistent with Highways England strategic goals, quantifying resource requirements and identifying project interdependencies within and beyond the team.
  • Plan and manage project activities and resources, identifying risks and appropriate mitigation and reporting progress, to ensure delivery of project objectives to time and cost.
  • Manage external expert and consultancy support as appropriate; and evaluate and act on such advice to ensure objectives are achieved.

About you

  • Proven experience of providing information and specialist advice in a specific technical or expertise discipline.
  • Experience of working in a programme and project environment in line with APMP principles, working with programme management to support the delivery of specific programmes.
  • Evidence of managing internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve desired outcomes
  • Proven experience of developing solutions and providing specialist advice in the technical discipline.
  • Strong networking and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and present results
