Senior Operations Manager for £20m p/a Utility division of leading Civil Engineering Contractor

An excellent opportunity has come in for a Senior Operations Manager to lead the Utility division of a Civil Engineering & Utilities contractor. This contractor has a current turnover of close to £130m and require an Operations Manager to come into their team to lead the Utility division which is accountable for around £20m of the group turnover. 

They have a plan in place to increase this to £50m over the next 5 years and require someone with the capability to run contracts from the original tender stage through to completion.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Monitor and manage health, safety and environmental performance

Maintain and develop effective working relationships with client

Develop and deliver budgets

Achieve financial performance targets

Challenge existing ways of working and drive changes for more efficient working

Commercial and contractual negotiation with the client

Manage human resource issues, including staff training.

Successful delivery of client KPI targets and productivity

Ensure high standards of work quality are maintained

Control overtime, expenses and wages payments

Initiate and support supply chain management and integration

Recognition and maintenance of the need to provide excellent customer service

Build and motivate effective teams

Encourage and develop clear communication and liaison between all levels of the business unit

Professional Experience

Experience of managing a high performing team

Experience of successfully managing UK based utilities/civil engineering contracts

Minimum of 2 years relevant experience at senior management level in the industry


Holder of a relevant professional or vocational qualification.

Chartered (desirable)
